Quadri makes top eight at Hungary Open

Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri began 2016 on a good note after making the top eight in the Men’s Singles of the International Table Tennis Federation World Tour, Hungarian Open.
The Nigerian was seeded number six among the 32 rated players for the tournament, which ended on Sunday in Budapest. The 2014 ITTF Star Player of The Year began his campaign in the main draw.
Quadri defeated Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro, Czech Republic’s Tomas Konecny as well as Hungarian, Daniel Kosiba to set up a quarterfinal clash against France’s Simon Gauzy, which he lost 4-2. It is the second time in a row that Quadri will lose to the Frenchman after losing to him at the quarterfinals of the 2015 ITTF World Tour, Czech Open.
His compatriot, Bode Abiodun, however failed to progress from the preliminary rounds. The duo, who combined in the Men’s Doubles, defeated Brazil’s Casuo Mazumoto and Thiago Monteiro 3-0 to berth in the quarterfinals of the event, where they lost to Chinese Taipei’s duo Chuang Chih-Yuan and Huang Sheng-Sheng.
