Senate To Commence Hearing On North East Commission Feb. 16

The Senate has fixed Feb. 16, for public hearing on the Bill for the establishment of North East Development Commission.
The chairman Senate Committee on Special Duties, Sen. Abdulazeez Nyako, made this known in an interview on Tuesday in Yola.
Nyako said that the public hearing on the bill which had passed second reading, would last for a week.
According to him, the establishment of the commission is vital to the rehabilitation, reconstruction and reintegration in the region devastated by Boko Haram insurgency.
He said that the committee had met with multilateral and donor agencies such as USAID, EU, DFID and Korean Development Agency to seek their input into the bill.
Nyako said that the discussion was necessary as the commission, when established, would serve as platform for managing interventions from the international community.
The senator, who was in Yola to commiserate with victims of Koh sectarian violence and Gombi market bomb blast, urged residents to be more security conscious.
He advised the Adamawa Government to construct earth dams in the hinterland of the state to reduce cattle movements during harvest, to minimise farmers/nomads clashes.
Nyako urged the youth to promote dialogue and fight drug abuse among them in order to curve the growing level of crime in the state. (NAN)
